2009-2011 State Board of Directors Election Results

Jackie Ferguson-Miyamoto Elected President

Jackie Ferguson-Miyamoto, a Unit 3 member and office assistant with the state Dept. of Transportations Harbors Division, has been elected to her second two-year term as HGEA president. She previously served as president from 1995 to 1997.

The following directors were elected:

KAUAI-AT-LARGE DIRECTOR

Pricilla A. Badua, a Unit 4 member and supervisor with the state Dept. of Human Services, Benefit, Employment, Suppport and Services Division

UNIT 3 DIRECTORS

Jon A. Gasper, office assistant with the state Dept. of Commerce and Consumer Affairs

Harry Y. Gima, pre-audit clerk with the City and County of Honolulu's Dept. of Budget and Fiscal Services

Stacie K. Hiwatashi, office assistant with the state Dept. of Commerce and Consumer Affairs

Iwalani P. Kaheiki, health unit clerk at Hilo Medical Center

Sandra Moses, clerk-typist at Hilo Medical Center

Patrick K. Yuen, educational assistant at Mililani High School

UNIT 4 DIRECTOR

Ronald G. Kapuniai, highway construction inspector, state Dept. of Transportation, Highways Division

UNIT 13 DIRECTORS

Arnold D. Abe, civil engineer with Maui County's Dept. of Public Works and Environmental Management Wastewater Reclamation Division

Gail T. Fujimoto, investigator, state Dept. of Commerce and Consumer Affairs

Peter S. Oshiro, supervisor, state Dept. of Health Sanitation Branch Plan Review and Standards Office

Darren T.Q. Wong, electrical engineer for the City & County of Honolulu's Dept. of Design and Construction Wastewater Division

The new term for the president and the board of directors is July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011. All are volunteers and serve without compensation.

The deadline for protest or challenges on the conduct of the election is May 21. The State Board of Directors will certify the results at its May 22 board meeting.

Ballots were mailed to eligible HGEA members on April 16, and counted in the Honolulu headquarters building today, May 16 by Nishihama & Kishida CPA's Inc. and the Beta Alpha Psi student organization at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Nishihama & Kishida has served as HGEA's third-party elections organization since 2002.

Seven candidates had uncontested races and, in accordance with the HGEA Bylaws, were declared automatically elected:

Hawaii-at-large -- Leroy Simms Jr., athletic director, Hilo High School

Maui-at-large -- Sharon M. Char, clerical supervisor, state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Disability Compensation Division

Oahu-at-large -- Keith C.S. Siu, senior clerk, state Judiciary Records Management Branch

Unit 2 -- Suanne Miyata, school food service manager, Aikahi Elementary School

Unit 6 -- Francine W. Honda, principal, Kailua High School, Oahu

Unit 8 -- Georgette Sakumoto, administrative officer, University of Hawaii Research Services

Unit 9 -- Suzanne R. Kaulukukui, public health nurse, state Department of Health, Community Health Division
