Coronavirus Update for HGEA Members
March 14, 2020
As you know, the coronavirus situation is changing very rapidly. We want to let you know that HGEA has received numerous questions from members about how the coronavirus may affect their working conditions and how HGEA events and meetings may be affected. There are a few things we want to let you.
HGEA has met with some of the Employers and jurisdictions and have meetings scheduled next week for others. We have learned that across different departments and jurisdictions, the Employers DO NOT have a standard policy or policies detailing how they are handling coronavirus issues. HGEA continues to press the Employers to establish protocols.
CONTACT YOUR HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICE
Most questions regarding how coronavirus-related illness and possible contacts are handled need to be directed to your respective Human Resources Office. It is the Employers' responsibility to provide a safe working environment for all employees. HGEA is pressing for answers.
HGEA continues to fight to protect your rights and to make sure you are treated fairly. As we get more information from each respective Employer Group we will make that available to the affected members.
UNION ACTIVITIES
Currently most union meetings and events are still scheduled. However, please note that this could change at anytime. Anyone who is sick should stay home. HGEA has video and audio teleconferencing which may be available for members who would like to attend meetings remotely. Remote access depends on demand. Please contact the staff assigned to your event to find out if videoconferencing is available. We will update the HGEA website and send out notices in eBulletin if events/meetings are postponed or canceled.
STAY HEALTHY
We encourage everyone to take common sense measures to keep themselves and others healthy. Refer to the Centers for Disease Control and the Hawaii Department of Health websites for the latest information, updates, resources and advice.
